Deciding Which One Works Best for You.
Oceanographic scientists and researchers utilize water sampling bottles for a variety of purposes. The most extensive use of water sampling bottles is to determine the chemical and biological makeup of bodies of liquid throughout the planet. Ocean crews collect samples that contain all kinds of scientific information. Depending on what researchers are looking to accomplish, there are two orientations that can be utilized for water sampling expeditions. Horizontal and Vertical. Horizontally oriented bottles can be deployed at any depth to gather more data about that area’s body of water. They’re usually deployed near the sea-floor to obtain a samples from a stratified layer. The sole drawback of this bottle is that they don’t flush as freely as the vertically oriented ones. We recommend waiting a few minutes before activating this bottle once the desired depth is reached. They can only be deployed by hand and activated with a messenger.
We also offer a fin attachment that can be used to steer the Horizontal bottle in the direction of the water’s current which will further assist in acquiring a sample.
Vertically oriented water sampling bottles are our most purchased type of oriented bottles. They can be lowered to depths of up to 7,000 meters below sea level. These bottles, are by default, free flushing. Water moves through the bottle until they’re deployed at a desired depth. They can also be utilized in conjunction with a General Oceanics Rosette or Sea Bird Carousel paired with a CTD (Conductivity Temperature Depth) measuring device. They can also be deployed by hand and activated with a messenger.
