Complete Plankton Net (Model 5100)
Consists of net, of appropriate size and mesh, mouth ring, 3-point bridle,
and cod-end jar or bag.
Plankton Net Close-Open-Close System (Model CC5100 series)
For opening and closing nets on messenger command at any depth. Consists of
a complete plankton net (as described above), a choker band and line for
attachment to double-trip mechanism, snapper block, plus endless loop sewn to
cod end. See diagram. The double-trip mechanism, to which the rolled plankton
net attaches, consists of the double-trip frame (1000DT), cable stop (1000-WS),
and 2 GO Devil messengers (1000MG).
Plankton Net Fabric, Size and Mesh
Net Material: Nytex netting, stabilized Dacron collar, seam
tape and thread. Double- or triple-stitched for long service under severe
sea-going conditions. No "baconing" effect in sewn seam.
Mouth diameter: 30 cm (11.8"), 50 cm (19.7"),
75 cm (29.5") or 100 cm (39.4").
Net length/mouth diameter ratio: 3/1 or 5/1. (the finer
the mesh, the longer the net should be relative to mouth opening in order to
maintain proper flow through the net).
Net and mesh formula: The model 5100 series plankton net
model indicates shape, mouth diameter, length and mesh opening of a particular
unit. For example, a conical net with a mouth diameter of 50 centimeters, a
length of 2.5 meters (5/1), and a mesh opening of 153 microns as follows:

Model

Net mouth ring:
Model 5100 for 30-cm mouth net, 5120 for 50-cm, 5125 for 75-cm, and 5140
for 100-cm mouth diameters. Specify brass or stainless steel.

Standard order includes 1-liter
polyethylene jar, PVC ring, hose clamp (to attach to cod end of net) and screw
top.
Model 5100CEB Controlled-flow cod end bag:
Zipper collar sewn to cod end of net.

Precision impeller instrument mounts in net
mouth. Model 2030R (mechanical) or model 2031H (electronic) may be used. See

Model 1000-DT Double-trip close-open-close
mechanism:
Device with two release positions individually
actuated by two successive GO Devil messengers from the surface. Standard
order includes double-trip mechanism frame (1000-DT), two GO Devil messengers
(1000-MGT) and cable stop (1000-WS).
Choker band and line
for purse-string closure:
Model 5130CR (for 30-cm and 50-cm
diameter nets).
Model 5175CR (for 75-cm and 100-cm diameter nets).
